Movie Podcast Weekly Ep. 194: Warcraft (2016) and Now You See Me 2 (2016) and The Conjuring 2 (2016) and Love & Friendship (2016)

Episode 194

In this wacky installment of Movie Podcast Weekly, Andy calls in to the show from (almost literally) the top of the world — Prudhoe Bay, Alaska! Most of the photos in Episode 194’s show notes here pertain to Andy’s travels. We bring you four Feature Reviews of Now You See Me 2 and Warcraft and The Conjuring 2 and Love & Friendship. We also bring you a lengthy debate about the legality and necessity of the movie editing service VidAngel.

If you’re new to our show… Movie Podcast Weekly typically features four hosts — Jason, Andy, Karl and Geek Cast Ry — along with frequent guests. We give you our verdicts on at least one new movie release from the current year that’s currently playing in theaters, as well as several mini reviews of whatever we’ve been watching lately. New episodes release every single week! Continue reading

Movie Podcast Weekly BONUS: Reviewing 2,500 Movies in 7 Years for a DVD Infatuation

BONUS Episode

It’s difficult to even find estimates of how many movie review blogs and websites exist on the Internet. Perhaps no one has dared to attempt a head-count. But just to provide some context, as I write these show notes, there are presently more than 1 billion, 39 million live websites on the Internet. So, I would speculate that at least 39 million of those are movie review blogs. I’m kidding, of course.

The actual figure is probably much higher…

Despite the incalculable number of movie sites, there is one man whose movie-reviewing efforts truly stand out: This BONUS episode of Movie Podcast Weekly consists of an interview with the most prolific film reviewer that I know personally, Mr. Dave Becker (aka “Dr. Shock”) of Perkiomenville, Pennsylvania, just outside of Philadelphia. I found Dave and his remarkable blog at DVD Infatuation.com on Twitter in 2010, the year he endeavored to review one film a day — every single day — until he reached his goal of watching and reviewing 2,500 movies. Also in this episode, Geek Cast Ry and Jay talk about their concerns for the narrative of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” according to some ominous rumors. GCR also discusses his predictions about the quality of “Warcraft” and whether it will unseat “Silent Hill” (2006) as the best video game-to-film adaptation. They also discuss a tremendous new must-listen podcast called LORE. Thanks for joining us (since Karl and Andy couldn’t be bothered to do so). Continue reading

Movie Podcast Weekly Ep. 191: The Nice Guys (2016) and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016) and The Angry Birds Movie (2016)

Episode 191

Don’t be fooled… Episode 191 of Movie Podcast Weekly is actually better than it seems. At first blush, when you glance over our Feature Reviews in the title, this episode seems like it will suck a la MPW Ep. 176, when we really covered nothing of interest… In this show, even though we bring you Feature Reviews of The Nice Guys and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising and The Angry Birds Movie, we also talk about:

— our feelings regarding the opening credits in movies
— our definitive declaration of the hottest Disney princess
— Interactive Cinema: Choose Your Own Adventure Movies and Other Gimmicks
— off-handed mentions (but no further description) of potentially interesting films, such as “Silver Streak” and “The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With the Sea”
