  1. Happy Birthday to Andy’s longest-running MPW shtick, the performance art piece where he pretends to be a workplace friend of Jay’s named Mick. When Andy commits to a bit, he really commits. (Unless the bit is pretending that his first name is Carlton.)

It’s interesting how many truly cool films came out in 1986. If I had to single out a random and probably mostly forgotten film that I remember enjoying at the time (and that probably doesn’t hold up), it would be TOUGH GUYS. Somehow Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster got roped into a Disney farce about senior citizen gangsters released from prison who struggle to adjust to life on the outside. The fellas eventually decide to pull one last job, recreating their most famous heist by hijacking a train.

Disney chickened out and ultimately released this as a Touchstone film (the Touchstone label had only come into being about 18 months prior to the film’s release). It was rated PG and played at the SCERA Theater in Orem because of their agreement with Disney. The theater was embarrassed about some of the content (Kirk Douglas moons a police helicopter and has a relationship with a younger woman, etc.) and had signs up in the lobby to warn viewers. Pretty funny given how tame this would seem by today’s standards.

Charles Durning, a young Dana Carvey (the movie came out a few months before he joined the cast of “Saturday Night Live”) and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are also involved.

ALSO: So the moment pops up in this episode where Jay can’t remember which film THREE AMIGOS borrows its plot structure and basic story from. Just as I am making a mental note to mock him in the comments for not being able to think of SEVEN SAMURAI, or even just THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, Post-Production Jay pops up to redeem his own brain fart. Nice save, sir.
