  1. Wow, I’m surprised you guys liked Cloverfield P. so much. It was pretty bleh for me. Had a bad feeling with that opening scene in the car and the super clunky exposition, and it didn’t get much better after that. Had some cool ideas and a few good moments, but still, it’s a 5.5. Clever marketing ploy, though, and a good choice to give it an audience where it probably would have tanked in theaters.

Saw two movies yesterday… The Florida Project is a big wow. Almost no plot, really. Just a slice of life, but very real and some wonderful capturing of humanity there in virtually every moment. And not that I had asked this question, but it answers whether I should ever become a manager at a motel with an emphatic “hell no.” 🙂 That and Shape of Water, which I caught a couple weeks ago have made my updated 2017 top ten. Both are 9.5s.

But The Greatest Showman was a big meh. And I generally like musicals, but this seemed more like a McMovieMusical. A fine message about appreciating all of humanity, some splashy parts, and good energy and enthusiasm by the cast, but super generic songs and kind of an after-school special kind of delivery to some of it. I’ll give it a 6.

  2. I think you should review Lowriders – A young street artist in East Los Angeles is caught between his father’s obsession with lowrider car culture, his ex- felon brother and his need for self-expression.

  3. And in all seriousness, I would like to hear a short discussion and ranking of the Jean-Pierre Jeunet films you have seen. Particularly Amelie (Of course! One of Everyone’s faves), and because of that, and a somewhat recent recommendation on your show, Delicatessen (which we saw last night – 7/10), and finally City of Lost Children (just curious where it would land in a ranking of the three).

  4. It has a good amount of jumpscares, it creates a horror atmosphere that makes you wonder how would you feel if you were there and it does not reveal the exact end. The movie has a great acting from Jason Clarke and Helen Mirel..
