    • No problem man. In spite of the fact I hate the single “Transformers” movie I’ve seen and I prefer “Alien” to “Aliens” you’re voice is still a gift to the podcasting world. I love those deadpan one word Willis Wheeler answers and how you obviously don’t give a hoot about what people think, you just tell it like it is!

  1. it is shame that we dont have that comparison between the musical and the movie of Jersey boys. i went to the musical and it was outofmymind brilliantly put together, breaking all stage show limitations threading the story plot together.

the musical was using the mob involvement as the crisis, there was no drug or woman distraction, or nothing like in Ray.

i suppose the just followed the stage script on that one . this one is not yet released in Australia but i will surely catch it when it is on

    • Hi Que,
Thanks for your comment. You’re right: I haven’t seen the musical, but I really got the sense (inexplicably) that the movie was a pretty faithful adaptation of the musical. I suspect that’s the case, anyway.

Yes, almost every mob-related element serves as a crisis in the film, and drugs don’t really figure into the story, either. The females in the film have very small roles, though we get small subplots with Frankie Valli’s wife, daughter and love interest.

I don’t know how to explain this, but I saw “Jersey Boys” five days ago now, and it has remained with me as much as if I just walked out of the theater. There are affecting moments in this film, sure, but I can’t explain why this story has been echoing in my soul. It’s weird, but there’s something so sad about Frankie Valli’s story to me… The way he shoulders things just breaks me up.

That gorgeous song — “My Eyes Adored You” — and the film’s usage of it, I think, has been the most haunting aspect for me. Yes, definitely see the film when it hits Australia, and I’d love to hear your thoughts on it. I wish I could say this movie will be as powerful for everyone, but I worry that it will only affect a small subset of its viewers.

      Thanks,
      Jason

    • Willis, would you compare Think Like a Man to something like The Wood? Because I actually really liked The Wood and if they’re similar experiences then I’d be inclined to check it out. But then again, I don’t care much for Kevin Heart so, more than likely I’ll skip it.

  2. Andy, a 7.5 for Oldboy? That’s a bit low isn’t it? Especially when you rated Empire State so high! Completely different kinds of movies, but worlds apart in terms of quality. Also, if my memory serves me right, you scored I Saw the Devil pretty high (a 9 maybe). I think the films are comparable and I would say that Oldboy is the superior one. Just my thoughts.

    Oldboy (original): 10
    I Saw the Devil: 9.5

  3. It’s awesome to hear that Josh has begun watching True Detective and that Jay is enjoying it so far. Such a fantastic show in almost every respect and I really look forward to hearing you guys discuss each episode. It just gets better as it goes on.

It was also awesome to hear that Jay enjoys “Death Sentence”. That’s one of the best modern revenge/action movies I’ve seen and I very seldom hear anybody mention it. I give it a 7.5/10.

As for some of the other movies discussed in this episode here are my ratings:

    Aliens: 9/10
    Transformers: 2/10
    Candyman: 7.5/10
    Tomorrow Never Dies: 5/10

I’m really looking forward to the Terminator CTS stuff. Especially since it sounds like Jason might be ready to defend some of the more recent entries in the franchise!

    – David

    • I love Death Sentence! I really think it’s one of Kevin Bacon’s best roles. Such intensity! It’s an 8.5 for me.
