  1. Two episodes in 13 days? It’s an embarrassment of MPO riches! It’s Christmas in August! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Barbenheimer! It’s nice to have GCR in the house. Ryan, you don’t need to watch all of the other Mission: Impossible movies with your son before seeing the new one, but why would you deprive yourself of that pleasure? Those are some great movies. I think you would find that even Mission: Impossible – Sunglasses Rocket is better than you remember it being. And the rest are all bangers. Just one good time after another. (My 13-year-old daughter wants to see the new one and has been diligently plowing through the series.) Also, I agree with Jay about Dead Reckoning, Part 1. It comes in hot and sizzles right to the finish. I don’t know what to make of Karl’s takes this episode: I think Hijack is crackerjack stuff, and a great showcase for Idris Elba. And I’m as baffled as Jay about Karl’s lukewarm response to Dead Reckoning. At least Karl didn’t crap on Dial of Destiny as much as Jay did. You guys. Jay does make an interesting point about the film’s color palette, but I thought Dial of Destiny was fun, inventive, and highly satisfying. Barbie didn’t tickle me *quite* as much as it did GCR and Karl, but it’s definitely a home run. My favorite film of 2023 is still Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse, but I think it’s been a fairly exceptional summer all around.
