  1. Glad to get your guys again for June! A few thoughts on Jurassic World: Dominion. The locusts’ threat didn’t bother me. As a fan of Michael Crichton’s books, this seemed like a story he would tell and another step forward in storytelling for a world now overrun with cloning and genetic engineering. The story and setup were okay. And hey, in defense of Chris Pratt, if a dinosaur almost ate me, I might just call it an a-hole, even if I was a dino-loving, studying guy. Good grief, I lose it on my kids and always say things out of character. Ha ha.

You guys hit on the big problem at the beginning of the podcast. The thrills just weren’t thrilling. We must stop treating dinosaurs like amazing animals and lean into the idea that they are freaking scary and killing machines. We are okay to make sharks the villains a couple of times a year–lousy movies, but hey, at least they provide some scares. 6/10 is more than fair. It is undoubtedly my least favorite Jurassic World. I think I would still watch this one before returning to Jurassic Park III and maybe The Lost World. Either way, it is all dumpster diving.

  2. Boy, from dino-bashing to an awkward Sunday School lesson to horror movies so extreme Jay kicks them under the shelf. Hot dog! This episode had a little of everything.

    Keep em’ coming!

  3. The 2022 trend of mentioning movies that some of the quintet have seen, but then saving them for later really leveled up in this episode. I was excited for all of the feature reviews announced at the top of the episode … and I guess I can still be excited about them popping up in Episode 351. Well, maybe.

There were two or three movies mentioned in the couple of episodes before this one that were going to be saved for whenever Karl showed up again. This time around we got the Irishman, but no mention of the movies previously not reviewed on his account. I guess at least Jay took notes on the holdovers this time.

And we can all look forward to more awkward discussion of “Under the Banner of Heaven,” since Jay is just getting started with that one. Maybe next time GCR will fall asleep while Jay, Karl, and William (and maybe Andy) peel back some more layers of the UTBOH onion, instead of merely falling asleep trying to watch the show itself.
