Regarding Netflix shows not lasting beyond a few seasons, I imagine it’s a few different reasons.
Right away, so many shows won’t even make it to a season 2 because Netflix makes SO many different shows that they’re not even trying to make them all a success. Create a dozen random shows and hope that one of them can end up being a hit. The ones that fail to be an instant success? Give up on it and concentrate on the next dozen new TV shows that are set to come out the following month.
The other problem is that I believe it’s after season 3 that Netflix contracts come up. So either Netflix has to fork over a lot more money to keep the cast and crew to come back or you once again give up and focus on the dozens of new shows set to come out. For example, Santa Clarita Diet did well, but was it worth it to Netflix to pay everyone more money for a season 4? According to Netflix, no. You have to be a huge hit to talk Netflix into paying additional money to get those post-season 3 seasons such as Stranger Things.
