  1. If I said I didn’t expect this turn of events, I’d be lying. When the episodes started getting behind, the writing was on the wall. Life happens to all of us especially parents. Always too fast. Sorry I missed out on the meetups and didn’t get a chance to meet you guys in person. Jay, I appreciate you opening me up to movie podcasts, I had fun. Take care and save me an aisle seat

    • You got it, Shawn. Thank you. I really appreciate it. I’d love if you could follow me at my links above, where I hope to continue to still be movie buddies with everyone. : )
      Sincerely,
      Jason

  2. Unless it turns into a u controllable amount of work Andy , Karl, and I will still be doing MPW on a bi-weekly basis. Sorry that our voices get to be your conciliation prize but that’s where we are at.

  3. Jay, I’ll miss your voice and hope that you can come back to the fold when able. In the meantime, I’ll try to catch you on HMP once in a while.

Hey Dino, now is the time for us to do Weekly Movie Podcast!
    😜

    • Thanks, Eric. I appreciate that. And the next time you’re passing through Salt Lake, check with us and maybe we can all catch a movie (or at least Dairy Queen) together. : )

  4. Hello, Goodbye!

How strange is Life, when it pushes us to a place we never expected to be, where we surprise ourselves being someone else, or rather someone new.

This ‘evolution of our self’ is generally triggered by our upbringing, education, and all around physical interactions with anyryone who touches us.
I say ‘physical’, because embodiment is a strong factor in this equation. We tend not to give as much potency to people who are not actually there.
People on a screen, or a photograph, all convey a message, but it is faded, and lacks that spark only physical proximity can bring.

So what about messages from people we can’t even see? Answering machine, phone call, or the radio … these sounds float in the ether, and they are even less significant, as we can only use just one of our senses to decode them (and to make things worse, we usually focus the other four to something completely unrelated)

This podcast is obviously a sound-only affair, but its message playing on one sense only is far from nonsensical.
Jason, Andy, Ryan, Karl and guests, you created with MPW a recurring stream of audio goodness. As waves tend to do, they come in cycles, some strong, some soft, and always bringing stories from afar.
Now the current has shifted, the waves are gone.
Some say they may come back, or not, they will surely tell new stories, with new voices.

But one thing is for sure: we are changed now.

    Thank you all guys!
And Jason, happy cruising on exciting seas 🙂

    Flavien

    • Flavien,
I’m starting to suspect that you might be a philosophy major… Interesting. Thanks for your deep thoughts. : ) We appreciate you.
      -J

P.S. I know Andy and Ryan recorded Ep. 322 the other night, so they will probably release it soon.

  5. EVERYONE RELAX! J is just doing a little radio stunt right now. Honestly, I’m a little bummed that nobody seemed to care when I left the show a couple of years ago. No loving tributes, no pleas for reconsideration.

He’s coming back. I’m sure of it. Ryan, Karl, and I are going to do such a terrible job that he will feel obligated to come back and rescue his baby.

  6. But seriously, all friendly trolling aside, I’m saddened to hear of this news and I’d be lying if I said I won’t miss you dearly, Jay. Life is about balance, Jay, and I hope you’re able to find it so you can come back to us (hopefully with better taste in movies). Thank you for the good times, good luck with your new ventures, and see you on the other side.

  7. Whoah…

I want to firstly say, please don’t let the promise of a David Lynch episode fill you with any kind of regret, Jay. It’s truly not THAT serious. The amount of entertainment and content you’ve given me for the past 5 years of my listenership to you has sooo much more value. Ive never gone anywhere and never missed an episode (you just never responded to my emails, mister) LOL.

I loved being able to spend time with you, Karl and Ryan in Indiana and having that moment of suffering through, “Blair Witch” with such awesome people was well worth the torture of that catastrophe of a film. Then, slamming some pickle backs and earning the nickname of, “Shark Pants” by the GCL crew was just the cherry on top.

You ALLLL have reignited my love for cinema over the years and brought back a passion that had started to severely fizzle when I initially found your show. I owe you guys so much for having the power and influence to do that.

I want nothing but joy and happiness for ALL of you. So, equally, don’t be strangers on this front either. I’m only ever an email or text away.

You’re all such amazing, genuine human beings and thank you all for being you! Looking forward to what the future holds.

    – James

    • Thank you, James. You’re too kind, Sir. You’ve always been good to us, and it was great to meet you and hang out in Indiana. What a great memory.

Truly, I want you to know, that it’s very possible I could have just been “a quitter,” as Daniel terms it, and just dropped all the outstanding, “lost” episodes… But I want you to know that 100 percent of my commitment to releasing on per month until they’re all out there is due to my feeling of owing you for the David Lynch episode. So, if people like or enjoy the forthcoming “Lost” episodes, you all have Mr. James Waters to thank for it. Ep. 317 is almost ready for February!

      Thanks again, James. : )
      -J

  8. I’ll do your Jiu Jitsu for you Jay, as long as it means you’ll podcast more often…
for the remaining MPW members, please keep the plates spinning!

  9. Thanks J. You introduced me to podcasts! Can you believe that!? And you expanded and enriched my lifelong love for movies. Thank you for so much great entertainment and analysis. I look forward to the next 12 lost episodes and any other opportunities to hear my all-time favorite podcast crew.

    • Thank you, Vance. And thanks for contributing so much to our community and for coming to SLC to watch movies with us! Let us know if you’re in our neck of the woods again. Maybe we can see something together.

Yeah, the guys are going to keep the MPW torch burning, they say, so that warms my heart.

But I told them that I will come back to review “The Irishman,” if they’ll have me, and I’ve already called dibs on The Top 10 Movies of the Year show(s). : )

      -J

  10. Jason, I’ve been a fan of yours since the “Weekly Horror Movie Podcast”. I was actually listening as “Horror Metropolis” was being released, and was super excited when I found HMP the very week you released episode 1. You actually read my email on episode 2 or 3 where, “ironically” or “coincidentally”, I begged you not to stop podcasting again.

Over the years MPW has become my favorite network show and am glad to here that Ryan, Andy, and Karl are going to make an effort to keep it going.

Real talk…. you’re the OG podcaster in my book and the inspiration for me starting my podcast “Black Dude White Dude”(no movies and shameless plug). You were casting when it was all the Wild West, before people were making it a career. Tons of respect to you and I hope the bug bites again soon

Thank you for all the great content. I always looked forward to Tuesdays and Fridays.

    Todd

    • Wow, Todd. Thank you. You have been enduring our shenanigans for a long time, then… “Horror Metropolis” only lasted 10 episodes, as you know, so I felt pretty proud of doing 321 here and 166 on HMP… : )

Congrats on your show! Sounds intriguing! “Black Dude White Dude.” Tell us the premise! (If you don’t, Andy will probably make up one…)

Thanks for what you wrote. And I’m glad my podcasting “sickness” was contagious… : )

      Sincerely,
      J

  11. Oh, but it was SUCH a perfect show, Jay. And now there is a gigantic Movie Podcast Weekly-shaped hole in my heart.

Thanks for all the good times, and for all of the many, many miles of early morning/late night running. Jason, Karl, Andy, GCR, Wolfman, WRJ, and all the rest: You guys are the best.

    • Thanks, Cody. You’ve always been a great buddy (and the guy who convinced me to start a movie blog way back when)…

Everything comes full circle, my friend: https://www.consideringthecinema.com/

Thanks again, Cody! Speaking of circles… let’s go on a double date again with our wives! April 2017 (“The Circle”) was the last time we did that! ha ha

      J

  12. Jason,

I realize that I’m relatively new to MPW, but knowing you from your horror podcasting work over the years, I just want to let you know that you’ve always produced top-notch, insightful, and super engaging content. You’re one of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE voices in the podcasting community, and I’m only sorry that I didn’t socialize with you more before you fall of the face of the planet. I would most certainly have loved to mix it up with you down the line, and hey… maybe someday such dreams will come true. 😉

Anyway, my friend… you take care! Raise those kids! Get that black belt! Get healthy! Live life to the fullest! Jason, you’re the best!

    Sincerely,
    Mister Watson

    • Mister Watson!
Wow. Everyone (except Andy) has been so gracious and supportive. Thanks for your high praise. I’m flattered and overwhelmed. I must confess, especially on this show, my perfectionism makes me feel undeserving. But thank you for the nice compliments.

I’m very proud of all my podcasts. Well … MPW has a few episodes that made me cringe… ha ha But I am proud of the work and my co-hosts and the Movie Podcast Network community. I’ve said it before, but just to be sure, I’m still completely obsessed with movies (and film criticism), despite myself. So, I hope all my movie buddies will keep in touch with me in these places:
      Twitter: @ConsiderCinema
      Website: ConsideringTheCinema.com
      Email: ConsideringTheCinema@gmail.com
      Letterboxd: Letterboxd.com/ConsiderCinema

But I’m glad you have enjoyed the shows, and I hope you’ll continue to enjoy my incredible co-hosts of HMP and MPW … and Andy. ; )

      Much love, Brother.
      J

  13. Jay, you will be missed dearly. If I’m being honest, I teared up a little when I heard this announcement. Through HMP and then MPW, you were my introduction to the world of podcasts back in 2015. At that time, I was going through a major life change and being able to tune in to some friendly discussions of movies in a thoughtful (well, usually thoughtful) way was just what I needed. This truly feels like the end of an era. I wish you the best and hope you know that we will always look forward to any appearances you can make on the network.

    • Thank you, Chris. To be completely honest, I tear up sometimes, too. And yes, it is definitely the End of an Era for me … a nine-year era. : )

As with everyone above, I’m so glad that you have found some value in our work. If we hosts were being totally open, we’d confess that we often wonder if anything we do is “sticking” or working for people. So, it’s been wonderful, over the years, when listeners like you would let us know that our work is appreciated. It means a lot to us. Truly.

      Thank you.
      J

  14. Jay – you will be missed. Taking a break is not a bad idea. Movie podcast weekly was a quality show. It was always better than rival podcasts. You offered insights into all types of movies. You also offered opinions. The podcast requited work. I appreciate the time and effort you and others put in. Maybe if the podcast was cut to an hour. Ye are so so good. I used listen to another podcast years ago – but haven’t bothered for years since I found movie podcast weekly. Thanks for the insights, humour. Opinions and fun.

    • Thank you, Noel. I have always been astounded when people call MPW “their favorite” above other movie shows. ha ha I love it, too, and I think it’s a good show, of course. Call it a poor self-esteem or whatever, but it’s always hard to view the thing you’ve created as worthy. I can only attribute that to my hilarious MPW co-hosts and my knowledgeable HMP co-hosts and this great community. I mean that. You all have made it was it’s been. And I know y’all will continue to do so. I hope you’ll stick around for the “lost” episodes and for what these guys bring to you for Eps. 322 and beyond!

      Thank you.
      J

  15. Thanks Jason, for all your good work. All types of movies were covered so well – from religious movies to horror.

Credit to you and all involved.

However – I am curious of what Andy thinks of the new Lego film.

I too never watched the Wire.

Thanks again. Don’t be a stranger
