  1. Hi jay, just to let u know that from the scarecrow discussion the recording seems having some issues, it jumps and skips on my player rendering it un-enjoyable. I am now up to 45min and it still happens. I dont even know what willis is talking about. You might want to check the file and i will try re-download.

    • Thanks, Que.

During that section Karl turns a fan on and you can hear it like a giant wind tunnel. But he turns it off pretty quickly and it’s back to normal.

But I hadn’t heard that section skipping. I’ll check into it. (Sorry about that.) Thanks for telling me.

If anybody else hears problems, let me know.
      Thanks,
      Jay

  2. Update for Que:
I just sat down and listened through the section you’ve described (and I listened from the same source that everyone accesses, of course), and everything played through smoothly with no skips.

So, I can tell you (at least) that the MP3 file itself is fine. Unfortunately, I’m not much of a trouble-shooter to diagnose what the problem might be on your end.

However, I’ve experienced this same thing in the past as I’ve listened to other podcasts, and I just downloaded the MP3 file onto my computer — as opposed to streaming it from the Internet, and it solved the problem.

Sorry again that happened to you. Hope this helps.
    Thanks for your patience, Que.
    Jason

  3. Hi, fellas. Because Pain & Gain keeps getting brought up and because it is now streaming on Netflix/didn’t cost me to rent, I decided to watch it. My expectations were really low because I find myself agreeing with both the host and co-hosts on MPW and Andy was the only one who kept giving it props. I thought the film was hilarious. There were a lot of moments where I was laughing out loud. All the lead actors seem to be at their best in terms of displaying the right kind of stupid humor, and Dwayne Johnson is REALLY funny and, I felt, continued to show that he can be pretty funny. I don’t feel like the movie is on my I-can-watch-it-over-and-over again like Cast Away or Star Wars (I know those may not be spectacular to everyone, but I really enjoy them and can sit down and watch them anytime), but the fact that it was based on actual events, the AMAZING stupidity of the villains (some it was displayed with artistic license, but a lot of it was from actual facts from the story/case), and how the director takes a moment along the way during the peak of stupidity to remind you that the story is based on actual events/litigation, and the well-delivered humor from all the leads kept me watching. I’m not sure I’ll ever watch it again, but–so long as people are okay with a dark humor–it’s definitely worth a Redbox rental or streaming.

  4. Hey guys, I still haven’t quite had time to finish this episode yet but it’s great so far.

I’ve got through the first 3 seasons of The Wire now and I’m totally obsessed. Every season so far is a 10/10 for me, with season 2 being my favourite. Oddly that seems to be the one least popular with most people, at least as far as I can tell from what I read on the net but it’s the one that spoke to me the most so far.

With regards to “The Wire” vs “Star Trek”. The former is easily the better written, acted and directed show, and for me the more compelling, but “Star Trek” boasts a wealth of imagination, optimism and influential prominence. I don’t think the shows are really comparable though because the formats are so dissimilar. “Star Trek” is almost entirely episodic, the plot arcs generally being restricted by each individual shows runtime while “The Wire” is a sprawling, multifaceted narrative. It’s sort of like comparing “The Brothers Karamazov” to a golden age Marvel Superhero comic. Both are fantastic examples of their form and immeasurably important to culture, but extremely different in terms of storytelling, style etc.

  5. Now with regards to “Guardians of the Galaxy”, I’ve yet to see it but I have to say that so far it’s the Marvel movie that appeals most to my sensibilities. This is partly because I favour Science Fiction over straight superhero fare but mostly due to James Gunn’s involvement. It’s great to see someone who has such a history of great low budget work break into the mainstream. In my opinion this is what we need. More directors whose priority is to make a GOOD movie as opposed to something that will just turn the most profit. I’m sick of so much modern mainstream cinema being overblown, condescending, lowest common denominator baiting crap and folks like Gunn who know how to tell a compelling, fun story on any budget need to be given more of a chance. You can pour an endless amount of money into a piece of crap like “The Lone Ranger” but if you don’t have someone at the helm who knows what to do with that money then it’s going to suck.
