Holy shit. A lost episode actually exists!
Yes, in fact, six more exist! Coming soon! I’m really on a roll lately!

I watched Wakefield back when it came out, because of Bryan Cranston and the super intriguing premise (and I saw it on the “Next week on MPW” sidebar!). I’m sure I enjoyed myself at the time, but there was something about that made me never really think about it again. Not forgettable, just disappointing, and I moved on.
So, listening to Jay describe the premise, I was thinking, “I know I’ve seen it, but man does that sound like a wicked story. I need to check this out again! I bet it’s a gem that passed me by the first time.” Some movies are like that, y’know?
Then Jay mentioned that the ending is unsatisfying and it all clicked back into memory for me — not the facts, but the feeling. I don’t remember exactly how it ends, I can see an image and hear a voice, but I’m almost positive the last twenty minutes of the movie decrescendos into something that makes me feel bad for enjoying what came before it and reveals the movie to be what I kind of thought it was and hoped it wasn’t throughout the runtime. Blah. Too bad. Anyway, 10 months later I rated from memory every movie I had seen over the past year and gave Wakefield a 2.5/5, so I guess that’s that. Low-priority rental is right.
Thanks for getting the episode out, Jay. There was a pleasant sense of dramatic irony pervading the episode, like when you guys would talk about the MPW release schedule or the 2018 Karate Kid series. It was really neat. Cartoon Joe is a great guest, and Ryan’s passion for all things Stephen King is legendary. Was he on the HMP coverage of Stephen King? I don’t remember him popping up. I’d like to hear more of his thoughts on King books and movies as a Special Feature topic, but there might be plenty of that in MPN’s episode on adaptations. I’ll use the time I saved from not rewatching Wakefield to revisit that episode.
Ha ha. Thanks, Graham. I liked this comment. Yeah, I think “Wakefield” will most likely resonate with those who have been married for a while and are, like the Bryan Cranston character, reassessing their role within their family unit. For that very specific sort of self-reflection, I think this film is valuable; otherwise, most people could probably skip it! ha ha
Yes, Cartoon Joe (and really, all the Geek Cast Live Hosts) are very knowledgeable and entertaining podcasters. Ryan was not on our HMP coverage of Stephen King, probably because he’s generally not a Horror guy. So, I think The Dark Tower series holds a special place in his heart where the Horror novels might not. Perhaps I’m wrong, though. I should ask him!

Jay, I just want to say how much I appreciate you going back and editing these lost episodes before the grand 300th episode. I know it’s a lot of work and I know you spend a lot of your personal time doing this for us. Just know that it doesn’t go unnoticed and that these episodes always make their way to my speakers and bring me joy every single time no matter how much you hate on the cinema ;)P
Wow, Juan! Thank you so much. This means even more coming from you, my legendary gadfly (person who prompts one to be better). Yeah, I am ferociously determined to get these Lost Episodes released because there are some reviews and moments that I really want to share with our long-suffering listeners… Plus, I’m motivated to not have people undercutting our accomplishment of 300 episodes by a mere technicality. Indeed, the episodes have been recording, and they are coming forth at last!
Thanks again, Buddy.

Jay, you make me sound like your enemy these days haha. I love you, man! I just love giving you a (deservedly) hard time even more 😉
