  1. I am unoffended. (Except when Jay uses ChatGPT to summarize my comments. Bravo to Gizmo for standing up for me!) I just got very busy before, during, and after the Christmas-New Year’s Day holiday break. Influenza A was in there for a while (though our two youngest never got it, and it didn’t hit me nearly as hard as my wife and our oldest child).

Neither “Ella McCay” nor “Star People” sounds very intriguing, but Jay totally sold me on Andy’s father’s funeral. Is that streaming on Netflix? If Andy can sing songs from “Wicked” on MPW, then surely he could be persuaded to recreate some of the best bits from his funerary remarks.

Southern Utah has many, many places to camp and see amazing night skies. Last summer I did a loop hike through Knotted Rope Canyon and Ramp Canyon in the San Rafael Swell with one of my brothers and a friend. We camped at the trailhead the night before doing the hike, and the night sky was breathtaking. Almost anywhere in the Swell is similarly rewarding.

If you need a little more comfort, however, then Capitol Reef National Park is another great option, with more amenities. (The main park campground is great.) If camping is not your thing, Jay, there are plenty of inexpensive motels in Torrey, the gateway town to the park on State Route 24. Check to be sure you’re visiting on a new moon, stay at a motel in Torrey, and drive to the Goosenecks view area just inside the park after dark. Take a camp chair or lawn chair and you can stare at the sky to your heart’s content. If you go during the Perseid meteor shower in August, it’s even better.
