Good seeing Great. Movie Podcast back.
Still the best movie podcast
Well done all.
Be safe.
Hopefully things will get back to normal soon
That was spectacular! I forgot how much I missed everyone! Thank you guys for taking the time out of your busy schedule and doing this!
So good to hear you guys together again! Glad you’re all doing well (ish). Haven’t made it to the Tenet part yet, so before I do, I’ll give my take: As a Nolan fanboy, I found a lot to appreciate in terms of the ideas and action, but it also seems to retread some of what he’s already done. And he should have learned from Bane to make speech clearer… the sound in my theater was good, but a lot of lines (including important details and exposition) were lost. So I’ll give it a 7.5, which will probably jump to 8 or 8.5 when I can see it again with subtitles. Probably my least favorite of Nolan films on first watch, but still much to appreciate, especially in this year with so little else happening. I like that he swung for the fences, even if it went just foul. But still, Karl is #%£*ing nuts to give it a 4 (which I saw on FB).
With Ryan/Karl on how great The Boys and Raised by Wolves are. Lovecraft Country I’m loving now, but nearly bailed after the early episodes, which were clunky and kind of all over the place. Recent ones are more focused, though.
Of recent offerings, I quite liked Devil All the Time (super dark, but in an interesting way), and really dug I’m Thinking of Ending Things, though YMMV as far as Charlie Kaufman goes (I love his stuff). First Cow, Da 5 Bloods, and Personal History of David Copperfield are also great in a year that should be easy to standout in.
Ah geez. Jay is even more nuts on Tenet. 😆 No argument at all about the sound… as I said, it was a big problem for me, too. But in terms of understanding what was happening, that was still pretty clear, or at least the broad strokes of it. And also an interesting combination of sci-fi and espionage.
