Happy Halloween from Movie Podcast Weekly! Welcome to Episode 333, in which former MPW host emeritus, Jason Pyles (aka “Jay of the Dead”) from Considering the Cinema and Horror Movie Weekly, returns to guest host our Halloween Special for 2019! So, Jay, William, Ryan and a guy named Andy (basically, everyone except Karl) also bring you Feature Reviews of Joker (2019) and Zombieland: Double Tap (2019) and El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019). Then, as a BONUS and to atone for failing to release “Lost episodes” for September and October, Jay is including exclusive, never-before-released postscript podcast material of the MPW crew discussing David Lynch and his films, Eraserhead (1977) and The Elephant Man (1980).
But wait! There’s more! Also in this episode, MPW features some excellent real-life examples of Life Imitating Art and Art Imitating Life. Also, Jay of the Dead bestows an official Horror nickname on Ryan. Not everybody earns a Horror moniker (Andy). Ryan laments the longstanding designation for certain anatomical terms and is often stymied by his father’s unpredictable movie tastes. And just for old times, one of the hosts falls asleep and snores during this episode.
If you’re new to our show… Movie Podcast Weekly typically features four hosts — William Rowan Jr., Andy, Karl and Geek Cast Ry — along with frequent guests. We give you our verdicts on at least one new movie release from the current year that’s currently playing in theaters, as well as several mini reviews of whatever we’ve been watching lately. New episodes release every single week!

Hi, guys,
This episode was a true return-to-form, thanks to Jay. Jay no wonder you had to take a break; are you hearing how much work you’re doing on this podcast to keep things on track?
But allows the other guys to riff as needed. I laughed out loud on the bus when Ryan (?) was talking about how his dad almost got arrested for stopping people from buying tix to Open Water. “What’s so funny?” “It would take too long to explain.”
Cheers, guys!
Hey y’all… Do NOT miss a chance to see The Lighthouse in a theater, so you can be in the lighthouse with these two amazing actors (Defoe/Pattinson) and not distracted by the real world. I’ve seen it twice now and it is a work of %#*€&$ art in every respect. Won’t be for everyone, or even most everyone, I suppose, but man oh man is it for me, and I assume most of you, too. Outstanding use of cinematography, lighting, sound, music, writing, acting, allusion, symbolism, performance, shape, focus, etc. My current BMOTY, for sure. 10/10
What happened to Ep. 332? Is that the first episode to be “lost” under the new regime (i.e. since Jay left the show)? And speaking of the Lost Episodes …
Loved this episode! I kept saving it up for a special occasion, and finally this weekend there were several snowfalls and much shoveling to be done. Great throwback to the MPW vibe of yore. I especially loved hearing everyone’s Halloween recommendations. Not sure what I did to deserve having this episode dedicated to me, but I appreciate the honor and I would like to thank the Academy, my agent, and especially my loving wife and my kids.
Shout out to Jay of the Dead/Jaylien for resuming his old editing role and good naturedly putting up with all of Andy’s and Ryan’s smack talk about leaving MPW. On the other hand, “Roughshod Ryan” is a pretty week horror podcasting handle. It definitely sounds more like a Garbage Pail Kids nickname than a cool online moniker. I think you need to come up with a better horror handle for Ryan, Jay.
